Introduction[]
The world of Hunt: Showdown is set in 1895 in an alternate history of our world, where paranormal events of various severities are a semi-regular occurrence all over the globe. The Louisiana Event stands out as one of the most widespread and powerful events, distinct from others because it involves multiple entities over its duration.
Hunters are people who fight what could be described by regular folk as ghosts or demons. Several secret organizations, one of which being the American Hunters Association, work to eliminate these creatures while keeping the general public oblivious to their existence.
During the Louisiana Event, all Hunters are required to ingest an Inoculation serum that makes them resistant to The Sculptor's influence. Over time, the AHA becomes fractured and disbands, leading to the formation of multiple factions, or Pacts, which battle each other in the Bayou, each with its own goals and perspectives on the event.
The Lore is told through various letters, manuscripts and documents dated during the Louisiana Event. These sources relate stories of the things happening in the Bayou, although not all are equally trustworthy. Many unreliable narrators and half-truths describe different facets of the corruption and the activities of Hunters in their attempt to fight the corruption.
The Book of Monsters and Book of Weapons are collections of documents gathered and compiled by a Modern-day Researcher, looking to the past and seeking to understand the events that transpired in 1895 Louisiana. Some Lore entries contain commentary from the Modern-day Researcher (RN = Researcher's Notes) judging, interpreting and theorising on the contents of the documents.
